Visions of the future

At Heuer Logistics we offer an extensive range of services. We are storage agents and forwarding agents on the sites of Bremerhaven and Hamburg. Our main focus lies on port operations such as ship clearance and loading and handling of goods and container at two terminals in the freeport of Bremerhaven.

At Heuer Logistics as a whole, we currently have about 100 full-time staff on the payroll. A good 70% of this total are staff who have been working for the company for more than ten years already, and in some cases much longer. So it’s obvious that we’re proud of that, and that we work well together as a team. However, what will the situation be in another ten or twenty years? Some of our current staff will then be leaving for their well-earned retirement ... How will we manage to keep hold of the know-how we possess? How can we pass on our knowledge, our experience and our expertise in the field of fruit logistics?

This isn’t something we’ve been thinking about since yesterday. Due to the age pyramid, it will be difficult for us to produce young talents at short notice. Therefore, we decided a few years ago to intensify our efforts to develop young people. We offer young people a start to working life, the chance to get to know us better, and later to work in our company. We expect good performance in school and occupation, interest, dedication and commitment, and harmonious give and take between the generations. All employees play a role in influencing and shaping the quality and character of our company.

Trainee years are for earning your spurs, yet there’s more to do than just make coffee...

What is the capital of Spain? If it costs € 2.50 to handle a single carton, what must the minimum price be for handling 100 cartons? These are the kinds of questions that young people have to answer when they apply for a traineeship in our Group. Young people who come to us can and should learn from scratch what it means to work in a transport and forwarding company. We have enough time to find out whether we’re a good match for each other in your subsequent career.Germany has a dual system of vocational training. For most young people, vocational training is the basis for starting a career. The companies themselves have great influence on the quality of training, and generate their own replenishment of skilled personnel. In 2004, 572,980 traineeship and apprenticeship contracts were signed. These days it is also possible to do part of the training abroad..
